5 Simple and Quick Breakfast Ideas to Get You Out of the Door On Time During the Week
I know I can’t be the only one who sprints out the door in the morning to work. Is it just me or does time go quicker in the morning? Anyways, a balanced breakfast is a really important piece to starting your day off on the right foot. If you are tired of your typical morning coffee and toast or bowl of cereal, look no further. Here are some ideas to spice up your breakfast routine that are fast and easy, in order to get you out of the door on time.
Breakfast Idea #1: Egg Cups
Have you ever seen egg cups made in cupcake tins? Just crack one egg per “cup” in the tray, I scramble the egg right in the tin itself to save of dishes. Add any vegetables that peak your interest and sprinkle in just a bit of cheese. You can add salt and pepper if you would like, I tend to wait to see how they come out before I add any salt. Bake on 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Check if the eggs are cooked thoroughly by poking the center with a fork, if it comes out clean, you are good to go! Two of these egg cups will keep you full until your next meal!
Breakfast Idea #2: Fancy PB Toast
Store bought jams and jellies are loaded with added sugar. Added sugar can make your blood sugar spike and then quickly drop leading to hunger pains and a headache in no time. BY and mashing strawberries or raspberries you will get the sweet taste desired without all of the added sugar. Add it to toast with two tablespoons of all-natural peanut butter (or other nut butters) and you will have the PB + J that hits all the cravings!
Breakfast Idea #3: Yogurt Parfait
Plain greek yogurt can be spiced up pretty easily with a drizzle any type of nut butter, honey or maple syrup; fruit; granola or nuts! My favorite is plain greek yogurt with sliced almonds, granola bits and sliced strawberries… if I feel like I need an extra boost I will add a drizzle of almond butter as well to keep me fuller, longer!
Breakfast Idea #4: Smoothie
An easy breakfast for the car? A smoothie! My smoothies contain all 3 macronutrients: carbs, protein and fat. Want to try it for yourself? Blend 1 cup of frozen fruit (I do love peaches and strawberries in combination) with 2 tablespoons of ground flax, 1 cup of soy milk (unsweetened), ¼ avocado with 1 scoop vanilla whey protein. Add water if the shake is too thick for your taste!
Breakfast Idea #5: Oatmeal
Oatmeal: plain flavored and by itself? Gross. Instant flavored oatmeal? Loaded with sugar and lacking fiber. Need ideas of how to make plain oatmeal taste better? Just like yogurt parfait, a nut butter or a little honey will go a long way? If you want to be jazzy, add a dash of cinnamon. My favorite thing to add to my oatmeal though? Diced apples and pears tossed in cinnamon and sauteed in a bit of oil (just enough so they do not stick to the pan).
